Reminder that listening to music is equally degenerate as masturbation and is not compatible with /lit/ life
>Young people know that rock has the beat of sexual intercourse. That is why Ravel's Bolero is the one piece of classical music that is commonly known and liked by them. In alliance with some real art and a lot of pseudo-art, an enormous industry cultivates the taste for the orgiastic state of feeling connected with sex, providing a constant flood of fresh material for voracious appetites. Never was there an art form directed so exclusively to children.
There is nothing noble nor sublime about listening to music and with modern technology that ensures its availability at any time it is as addictive as pornography
>Picture a thirteen-year-old boy sitting in the living room of his family home doing his math assignment while wearing his Walkman headphones or watching MTV. He enjoys the liberties hard won over centuries by the alliance of philosophic genius and political heroism, consecrated by the blood of martyrs; he is provided with comfort and leisure by the most productive economy ever known to mankind; science has penetrated the secrets of nature in order to provide him with the marvelous, lifelike electronic sound and image reproduction he is enjoying. And in what does progress culminate? A pubescent child whose body throbs with orgasmic rhythms; whose feelings are made articulate in hymns to the joys of onanism or the killing of parents; whose ambition is to win fame and wealth in imitating the drag-queen who makes the music. In short, life is made into a nonstop, commercially prepackaged masturbational fantasy.

Most things bottle down to the same idea: economic progress has allowed lower castes to enjoy aristocratic pleasures; eg music, literature, even drugs. They cannot comprehend it at high levels so they dumb it down. In the end, we are all left with dumbed down trash that dumbs down the consumer.

Everything he says of rock music was true of jazz before it; rock only superseded it by intensifying the libidinal element, the same was ultimately done to rock by hip hop.

i listen to primarily classical and jazz, now you simply could not make that argument for jazz. who fucks in swung eighth notes? and im sure that i could find a piece of classical music that has those rhythms if i cared to look . i can guarantee there is much more nuance to that quote given the full context, which you so generously leave out to support your own masturbatory confirmation bias
i can tell your under age, because once you grow up you cant possibly be so serious about things of such little consequence. theres not enough time to care, just wait until death, that where is really begins, until then, just wait.

what music do you listen to? listening to chopins ballade no 1 during the death of prince andrews father (cant remember the name rn) in war and peace makes it even more powerful. i mean the song already regularly brings me to tears but the book in addition.
also nothing is cooler than listening to the meistersinger von nurmberg as nietzsche is giving his opinion on the opera in beyond good and evil or listening to john fields nocturne after tolstoy references them, and especially nothing as cozy as putting on some of mozarts chamber music after kierkegaard mentions him at his modern symposiam the stages in lifes way

The debate going on in this thread is very similar to the debate Islam has been having for centuries. I'm not very educated on the specifics but I think there is nothing wrong with listening to music as long as it serves some kind of purpose or has artistic value. So basically the opposite of modern 'music', which is nothing more than commercial sludge full of orgasmic rhythms, vulgar lyrics, and devoid of any real artistic value. I'd say the same thing about TV. You'll find nothing of value in those brain rotting, laugh-tracked sitcoms (so stop fucking watching them), but I don't think there's anything wrong with educating yourself with documentaries from NOVA or Ken Burns. Just stay away from garbage of any medium. Judging the entire medium of music by its worst representatives (western pop trash) is not better than judging the entire medium of literature by its worst representatives (smut or pseud trash).

i used to as well, for rock mostly zepplin or zappa, early genesis, prog shit, stuff with lyrics doesnt go well with books (which i think is what bloom is referring to) because its distracting, even if its in a different language it distracts me

i mean i started out watching sitcoms and modern drivel (even the edgy kids that listen to dad rock and think its so anti commerical are listening to commercial drivel) when i was a teenager, which is normal. but by the end of my teens, and this is a common projection if you create art to any degree, i was zealing for more from those mediums. kubrick, kurosawa, and tarkovsky (i know they are the psued trinity) make good movies, they arent full of modern relativistic morals.
and you go far enough into rock, and then metal, and then extreme metal, like black metal in particular (dont know about other genres never was interested although ive listened to slam and crust and powerviolence, the whole gamut) you start to care less for commercial music and gain taste, and eventually you find that classical and jazz are the only two mediums where very nuanced emotions lie, even in black metal there are only a few basic emotions, which are nice but you start to want more. when you want sorrow with cheer you get mozart. when you want heimatgefuhl with heartbreak you get chopin. when you want simplicity and complexity you get bills evans.
the internet has the unique oppurtunity to evade capitalism. i dont care if its worth money i can listen to whatever and watch whatever i want.
i dont know why anyone can handle that zoomer shit, and i speak as a zoomer
