>read a couple of pages of a book
>lose interest after that and start to jerk off to porn and play vidya till 6 am
wtf /lit/ how do I purify myself of all of this bullshit and become more concentrated on literature instead of all of this technology brainwashing

The video games part I don't know how to help you I spent all my childhood and a lot of my adult hood doing nothing 24 hours a day playing video games missing out on everything until I was somewhere in my early 20s and just got bored of video games and had absolutely no interest in playing them anymore for they offer nothing and never will and reality with droggs and other stuff is far more fun

Same problem here. Somehow gotta improve discipline.

Unironically, meditation. (Sans stupid religion or theology bullshit, just the practice of it.)

When you sit down to read, you get agitated and start hungering for vidya and porn and immediate gratification. Those are intrusive thoughts that you need to quell. Meditation is literally designed to help you do that. 20 minutes of it minimum. Then try reading.

Set yourself attainable targets. If you set a target and fail to meet it, you're reinforcing the idea that success is impossible. Also, since nothing disastrous happens when you fail, you're reinforcing the idea that failure isn't so bad.

Just take stock of where you are, and be honest. Can you concentrate for ten minutes straight? For five minutes? For half an hour?

If you can read two pages without putting the book down, set yourself the target of three pages. Nothing succeeds like success. And nothing fails like failure, either.

Just keep on reading anon. Use social media and addictive virtual shit like that less. I had the same problem but I just didn't stop reading. At first I read very little but slowly it became more easy. Make an active effort to put the phone down and grab the book at one point in the day. In retrospect it seems easy. I've heard meditation may help. I see these threads the whole time. It's not that hard. You just need to take that "no. I have to stop doing this hedonistic thing and do something productive." Will power that is hard to summon at first and turn it into a habit, if that makes sense.

is there something else you're meant to be doing, and will reading books get you there?

do regular physical exercise if you aren't doing that, its as important for the mind as it is for the body. It's natural for the mind to become sluggish, weak-willed and lustful if the body never moves.

ex-coomer slacker here, that's basically what you have to do. Fight your thoughts, try to keep yourself away from distractions and you'll make it.
You will relapse several times, and the guilt will be horrible but keep trying.
Now, I'm not saying you should go full nofap or not playing vidya at all, just do it in moderation.
We believe in you, anon.

You need to learn that concentration and true study are grueling activities. There was an essay by simone weil about concentration which you should read as a starter

Find something that has a stronger pure and lure than video games and porn.

For me it was real women and cyber security. Treat your studies, tests, projects and even relationships with people as games and youll find them much more compelling to engage in.

Its a slow road and dont expect suddent change at once but rarely do I find myself playing video games past an hour or so, or even skip it altogether. Havent had a binge for a while, maybe 3 hours max was my last longest session.

>cyber security
How do you even get into that? I feel like that unless you got into hacking and the like when hardware and software was simpler, you will have a much harder time to do so now since everything is much more complex.
