There is much more originality in science fiction/fantasy based manga than there has been in western literature over the past few decades. Science fiction in the west has devolved into solely being comprised of YA novels with the same copypaste plot.

NO, since there is literal Japanese literature that is better than most of the shlock that comes from manga and anime. the list of "good" anime that is actually trying to say anything is slim.
I like anime and manga but i'm not gonna sit her and pretend it's a literary masterpiece. same with video games

Yes and no. Mainly? No, actually, none at all, maybe? They both offer different things. Manga excell in dramatization. The way they use full pages for events, close up to the face, far away shot etc etc are done masterfully to increase the dramatic impact. They can convey ideas and ideals better. They are absolutely worth trying out to see if its something you like.

Take at legend of the galactic heroes, its a 2/10 compared to game of thrones. My favorite mangas, naruto, kokou no hito, blade of the immortal and many more i appreciate in wildly different ways to my favorite literature books.
