iirc that scene ends with a stinger, with orwell saying that it was motivated by political means, as a way to get back at bb.

lackwit: good thing we don't live in the world of 1984
dipwit: there are eerie similarities between our world and the world of 1984
midwit: our world is much more similar to aldous huxley's BNW tbqh
highwit: dystopian fiction is a form of criticism which typically expands on negative factors already present in society, therefore it is possible to draw a relationship between any work of dystopian fiction and the real world. that is the purpose of dystopian fiction. if you read anything else by george orwell you will see that the terrible world he described in 1984 isn't a prediction or a warning at all, but rather a slightly-exaggerated description of living conditions in wartime England mixed with the propaganda/mass brainwashing techniques of the communists in civil war Spain.

T : Humans differ in their desires, beliefs and values, therefore almost any way of organizing society would seem like a dystopia to some and a utopia to others.

Actually BNW is apologia for antiquated British classism that was embarrassingly out of touch with the progress of the twentieth century, let alone the twenty first.

Why does everybody have to read 1984 but not We

Orwell hinted at this in his essays too. Generally, it was impossible to keep old forms of governance in a regimented, fanatical and absurd world.

Interestingly enough, both have described methods used by governments today, albeit in different countries (US vs Russia).

The best thing about BNW is it's showcase of extreme American consumerism, which has spread to most of Europe.
