Hello /lit,

I recently got accepted to both the university of Hong Kong and the university of St andrews (scotland). These are both top 20 universities in the world and I just don't know which one to go to. I'm thinking about majoring in international relations and would like to learn spanish, chinese, and arabic. The problem is they both offer all of these.

What do?

So you're debating whether you should learn Chinese and international relations in China or in Scotland?

Really?

Whatever meaning was in the post you quoted obviously went way over your head silly anon

China would be better to go to, because when China takes over the US things will be way easier for you

that sign was pretty clearly done through an automatic translator in a rural area. Since Hong Kong was owned by Britain for a decent 150 years, English is still probably a part of normal students' curriculums. Especially when you reflet on the fact that English is taught to all students even in Shanghai.

Hong Kong #23

St. Andrew's #95

Enjoy your shit-tier university, either way.

Love from Gonville and Caius, Cambridge (#1, in case you're interested). St.Andrew's is just for posh kids who are too stupid to get into Oxbridge. Pic related.

One thing to consider is that moving to another country is not an easy thing to do. It depends on the individual, of course, but adapting to another culture while trying to do great at school... I don't know, it can be the best experience of your life or it can be tough and hinder your performance.

>> No.1605126

>>1605076

You are an idiot. Those rankings have nothing to do with the quality of undergraduate teaching. They are almost entirely based on the quality of research.

In the USA, the best colleges for undergraduate teaching are liberal arts colleges; they are less prestigious than the top private and public universities, but that is only relevant if you care more about your job prospects than about your education.

Also, grade inflation in the UK has reached a level where it is virtually impossible to distinguish between candidates who apply to Oxbridge. In all likelihood, the average successful application at any top ten university in the UK has achieved almost identical grades to successful Oxbridge applicants. However, the slightly smelly way in which some people cling desperately to the reputations of their institutions is terribly amusing.

Universities do not have a social responsibility to redress the structural imbalance of the British education system. That must be done long before a person has reached adulthood. Elitism (it's really meritocratic for the most part) in universities is kind of the point.

University rankings always remind me one of these world city rankings I saw published by a british newspaper.
