books to BTFO materialism?

>> No.16047661

>>16047639
Lemme save you some time. Any book which claims to have refuted materialism relies ultimately on "muh feels" (which they dignify under many different names to lend it some apparent rigor.) Also, all of the good ones were written before 1960 and are hopelessly out of date anyways. Physicalism won. Read current neuroscience. Case. Closed

The mere existence of consciousness definitively BTFOs any form of materialism worthy of the name. Any of the so-called "materialist" explanations of consciousness are just forms of property dualism, if not outright substance dualism.

You don't need a book the btfo is that believing in materialism means that you are just a puppet to your own chemistry

If your brain is the object which controls you utterly then your brain is the one allowing you to believe in materialism. its just circular logic.

Unironically the best literature that Disney ever had to offer. Great story about how the real riches are the experiences and memories gathered along the way. It's materialism BTFO, but not the kind of materialism that OP wants I'm afraid.

Is there a word for this? You see this with Boomer memes a lot. Like, they don't know what the words mean, but they have these vague webs where the word is sort of attached to some other concept, and even though they have nothing to do with each other, they know there's SOME kind of relation. So they just slap a bunch of shit together, and hope you have the same sort of word-web in your head as them.

No, really, I feel like there's a word for this. It's probably German, too long, and made up of smaller words. It happens all the fucking time with Boomers. Anti-gun boomer memes are a particularly good example of this, because there's a lot of technical terms that mean something really precise, so gun nerds blow the fuck up and tell some dumb middle aged accountant why no, a scope doesn't "make the bullets more accurate".

I've only just started it, but his main point seems to be that the pure physicalist sciences will eventually reach a dead end in their attempt to explain the world (an assumption based on the historical inability of science to reduce qualia and other mental states to material states, among other things), and we need to prepare and be open to the possibility of a huge paradigm shift in science that can adequately account for the missing pieces. He argues that mind is a fundamental element of nature and not just a byproduct of physical chance, and thus must be at the centre of our worldview.
