It's basically a bunch of mental gymnastics that's supposed to make us feel better about ourselves.

Yes. Philosophy is alienation. Hindus understood it. Parmenides understood it. Christ understood it. Marx understood it. Heidegger understood it. Debord understood it. Camatte as well, and now it's Kaczynski. Civilization is the negation of Being.

Kaczynski is the greatest anti-intellectual of our time.

This, too, is just a cope. You just suck at manipulating civilization towards your own ends - doesn't mean it's the negation of """Being""" or whatever the fuck you're trying to say. Even in civilization, you "are". God I hate phenomenologists.

Yeah, but all that shit is either supposed to make you change your opinion on stuff ("gee I'm not doing what I want BUT IT'S OKAY BECAUSE YADA YADA") or just serve as a mental masturbatory ritual that makes you feel as if you're "enlightened", and gives you a temporary feeling of superiority over others.

>>16027067
>Is mathematics just a big cope? Is learning arithmetics or geometry only useful to feel better?
No, but arithmetics and geometry can be used to make shit in the real world happen. It makes us more powerful by giving us better tools for manipulating reality.

Are you saying that's the point of philosophy as well? Well, what kind of "tools" does philosophy give us to cope with life?

Good question, let me trace back for a moment.

Let's say you are a human being, an ordinary young adult male browsing 4chan in his free time. You wanna do shit, like, make stuff happen, talk to people, organize stuff, go outside idk. But you don't do shit, because you've been this person for as long as you remember - you can rationally realize that life doesn't have to be like this, but the rational realizations don't really help at all because it's all the fucking same. You wake up, go to work, avoid people, get tired of the routine and go back home. Getting out of the house takes effort, communicating with other people takes effort, getting a girl to fuck takes effort, keeping calm and *enjoying* the very sexual intercourse takes effort, everything takes effort.

How the fuck does philosophy help you with any of it?

And let's be honest, it's usually fucked up people who have a lot of internal bullshit that get drawn to philosophy.
It takes a lot of disappointment and insight on negative shit in your life in order to get suspicious enough to start questioning reality itself.

Well, depending on the school of thought, it could give the last push do start doing things differently if the person doesn't want to die exhausted, thinking how life took too much effort. Or whatever else motivates others people. Bet one could also find something that supports the perspective that "things taking effort is something to pursue due giving more satisfaction when accomplishing them".

Though sure, in the end, no philosophy, therapy or other mental exercises can actually DO something. That's all up to us.

>>16027284
>Does it not make you feel like an ostrich that is putting his head in the sand?
But trying to examine the causes of your pain is the opposite. For example if you have a physical pain, examining the hurt part often helps to satiate the pain. Moreover, the process of finding the truth starts to feel good on its own. Same with philosophy, although it is about way more abstract trouble. Finding truth is a value on its own, and it often gives you additional benefits.

No, actually, your pic is very related.

Ted Kaczynski suffered from the exact same lacuna that you're suffering from. There are such things as ends-in-themselves, things worth doing for their own sake, and philosophy is among them. Kaczynski perversely reduced all ends-in-themselves to "surrogate activities", and, in a terribly underdeveloped and unconvincing point, claimed that they could never be fulfilling. Kaczynski was just as poisoned by modernity rationality, of construing of things only in terms of instrumental rationality as you are when you think of philosophy in terms of what it is supposed to do. Kaczynski did not fight the omnipresence of instrumental rationality, he wanted to limit its scope to primitive survival. That's why he is a painfully superficial thinker, and why anyone critical of technology and modernity is much better off reading Heidegger or even Adorno.

Philosophy is not supposed to do anything OP. "What is it good for?". It's not a fucking hammer mate. The same applies to art, regardless of the fact that more and more buglike plebs insist that it must have measurable "benefits", as if consciousness is an accountant's optimization game. Kierkegaard's term is kræmmersjæl. It translates to Peddler's soul.

Riddle me this: is happiness just a cope to make us feel better about ourselves? What does cope even mean? Why must it be presupposed that everyone is a sadfag?

Superficial reading of Kaczynski. TK did not wish to limit the scope of rationality to primitive survival (we cannot predict the outcome of a revolution, anti-tech rev) he wished to limit the scope of rationality to the elaboration of a critique of revolutionary thought. You completely missed his point, obviously since you're an apologist of alienation. His works are deciduous outside the revolutionary appeal, unlike the judaic cosmogony of Christ and Marx proposed as the final all-encompassing alienating system, Kaczynski is the most radical intellectual of our times.

I dont think hes an anti-intelectual. I think what happened is that he witnessed the symptoms of the age of Kali Yuga like Evola did except Kazynski did not have the same metaphysical or spiritual understanding of the deeper nature of the problem and assumed that mans hubris lead to creating a system that was consuming him and the system was self perpetuating.

Kazynski diagnosed the symptoms correctly but unfortunately even in his genius he made mistakes because he was brought up by that same system and thus was never exposed to certain things that would allow him to understand that the technological excess and dissolution of traditional good/order in the world were intended and forseen consequences by the Illuminati.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvtWDIZtrAE&t=5147s

Evola's response is that the dissolution/degeneration of our time was a natural process of the universe and trying to fight against it would be almost retarded unless you were some sort of superhuman god.

You are right for the most part, but you aren't very familiar with the psychological type that the philosopher often is. Philosophers often live very destitute lives, especially since the collapse of ancient Greece and Rome. They philosophize at their own expense. They fail to make a decent living and fail to maintain their relationships. Instead, what motivates them is an agitation of contradictory forces inside themselves, which leads them to conceive of a different state of existence, one that is not necessarily more comfortable.
