I think he got what he wished for. Following his philosophy of living it made perfect sense to die in such an ironic way. He would have laughed with his death if he could somehow come back

The only reason people still talk about Camus is because of the way he died. he did it on purpose to cement his legacy.

Yeah, not really. The only thing that made sense in his lifestyle is his death

It was bad luck. He missed the train, so his friend proposed to drive him to his destination, the abyss

Nah, Camus dying is part of what lead to the french intellectuals going off the rails in the 60's. He could have saved them.

That would have been hilarious. From my research there is a theory the KGB plotted to kill him

He was starting to be disillusioned with them near his death because of decolonization (not that he was strictly against decolonization itself, but he was disgusted by their cheering of crimes against pieds-noirs). I believe he was probably the only principled figure among them, and perhaps if he had lived he could have tempered them, or at least drawn young French thinkers away from such ideas.

Camus's wikipedia page notes that some have suggested the KGB had him assassinated.
Did they?

hmm that actually makes sense. Even if I don't agree with his views of life, I can see why he would have been beneficial to youngsters of France in the 60s who were stirred by the sensationalism of the time (maoism).

>He was starting to be disillusioned with them near his death because of decolonization
As a pied noir himself I can understand why.
