Why do you read books?
To have fun?
To tell yourself you're doing something productive?
To appear an intellectual in your mind?

It depends on what I’m reading desu

I read books thinking that I am going to find the next big idea or thought, that is going to expand my view of the world, and somehow find purpose or meaning in it as a way to cope with my apparently lack of self control, and discipline.
It sucks. IT FUCKING SUCKS. I AM TIRED OF BEING ALIVE. FUCK YOU.

Just gonna go take antidepressants, and stimulants and focus on a single thing till the day I die.

>> No.16004118

Honestly probably those and more.
I like reading big books and challenging books to kind of hone my reading and comprehension skills. It sounds gay but I figure that’s essentially what an athlete is doing, only for their physical skills

all of the above minus the rare reading something for knowledge that you can actually apply to something (anything technical or repeatable)

If you're going to fry your brain with something, why not do it with psychedelics?

After reading for 4 hours I feel rejuvenated and ready to do something productive
After playing video games or watching TV for 4 hours I feel tired and want to keep doing the same thing because I don't feel like switching

Cause I already have. Its a fucking cope. Everything is.

We went mentally ill when we developed the consciousness to realize how insignificant we are, and until technology makes us gods able to comprehend everything, this existence is going to suck mighty balls

because it's pretty easy. You just sit down and open a book. You can exercise between chapter and you feel good when you finish one.

I enjoy stories. That's pretty much it. I do frequently read to learn more about a topic I'm interested in but I feel like that isn't because I enjoy reading so much as I enjoy learning new stuff and the vast majority of information just happens to be stored by writing it down.

But the thing that draws me to books is that I like hearing stories, I enjoy experiencing a narrative. I haven't been on this board for very long but I get the feeling that most of the other people on /lit/ have a very different motivation.

I have narrow reading interests, only reading theology, biblical studies and the Bible itself. I read this because I enjoy the subject. It is really fun for me to challenge my notions of the nature of God and understand the ministry of Christ. I read works with little regard for its origin in different traditions, enjoying Catholic devotionals, Orthodox patristics and Protestant theory. As long as Jesus is the centerpiece of the work, I will pore over it (saying such, I lend little credence to Marian devotion and Liturgy)

I read my Bible by the book, not by passages relevant to my day. I’m always reading through one book of the Bible; I’m currently in Daniel 2.

I like reading stories and after exhausting the vast majority of interesting cinema, I turned to books to feel in the gaps of how storytelling has evolved throughout the ages.
