Hardly, it was rather amusing and didn't make me want to disembowel myself.

This was the opinion about ten years ago. Since then the book has been rehabilitated, as you can see. Now yours is the reddit opinion.

I was a redditor from 2012-19, only subscribing to niche subs in the literature, theology and Biblical studies fields. The fundamental problem with reddit was its upvote system, where simple clicks decided what got more publicity, rather than the number of comments. The comments function was novel for its time—it encouraged conversation. If only the comments had upvote buttons and posts did not, I think it would be more palatable. The shift to the mobile market ruined the experience for too many, but replacing r/all with “Popular” on mobile ruined it forever. It’s now no different from a Facebook feed with an endless scroll of tiles of nothing but tiktok videos and cheeky twitter screenshots pushing an easily parroted pop liberal agenda.

>weaves the absurdity of existance, coincidence, the human condition and the futility of philosophy into a creative exciting funny swashbuckling adventure without the slightest pretension
>never mentions ugly green blob
>cover has ugly green blob, sometimes only the ugly green blob, completely against the author's will
