What's your enjoyed book/read book ratio?
Mine must be somewhere around 1 to 5.
My new year's resolution was to read more but, man, most of the books on my "want to read" list sure become a chore halfway through.
How do you deal with this?

hmm, i'd say 4 out of 5.

i've found that every well-renowned classic book that I've read is actually worth the hype, but the times I pick up some obscure meme book someone rec'd on /lit/ I always end up extremely burned by it.

lol man, it's the same for me, except that i keep falling in the "it's closer to modernity so it must be more appealing" trap. Each time i have read some old ass classic i enjoyed the shit out of it.

Don't try to force your way through something that you seem to be hating. I usually give up after 1 or 2 chapters of a book if I don't like it. All the books I have read in complete I have read 4 or 5 stars on Goodreads and I have loved reading almost all of them. You need to remember there are a lot of books out there and its not worth the time and effort reading shitty books just to prove something.

Give me one reason why I should suffer some retard author for hours when I can spend time with some author I like. Its like spending time with someone you hate instead of somebody you love, why would you do it? You have to remember your mortality.

I'd say 9 out of 10. I believe at least 90% of what is considered classic or acclaimed literature (acclaimed by people who REALLY enjoy literrure) is good or somewhat enjoyable. Its a way better ratio if you compare it to music or movies where at least half of whats praised is shit.

I cannot stand novels or anything fiction in that case. Sadly, any modern non-fiction is shit unless you have a very particular interest in whatever you're reading. It makes it hard to find good recs on this board

this is actually good advice

Pretty high. I'd say 90% of the books I enjoy but only because I do so much research on the books I read beforehand. Its a pretty big surprise if I end up hating a book.
