I'm currently putting together a rough manuscript about a cowgirl and her giant bunny exploring the American Texas south to Mexico - Which had become some sort of hot spot for magical beings and sightings in my story.

It was originally a nice wholesome story of two friends meeting some fantasy creatures in the west with an age rating intended for kids...

But it's now quickly snowballing into a something that includes references to The Cristero War, Mexican synarchism, the scarier body horror-esque consequences of messing with a fairy, and an increasingly negative attitude against the U.S. government.

Keep in mind, all of this is developing in my head and I haven't written much of the darker stuff down.

Should I continue to move down this darker path or should I turn to back and do something else with my concept?

I could also use some help with recommendations since I never read anything of the "Weird West" genre and the only western movies I watched are A Fistful of Dollars and Back To The Future 3.

Sounds like you really need to go outside and get some fresh air once the pandemic is over.

Go to a library sometime, even with a mask.

>Bunny Meridian, or the Evening Redhead in the West
>See the rabbit. It is pale and fluffy. It has soft fur and it stokes the sparkly fire. Out in the fields lie a dark wood scattered with faerie dust and yet a few last tinkerbells.
