Not OP here. Is The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus by Marlowe worth reading?

>> No.15947223

>>15946980
It's the modernist poisoned Promethean chalice in a nutshell (and influenced by conversations with Hegel just prior, "spirit of negation" ect.)

>> No.15947408

The GOAT. Nothing else comes close

I really hope you started with the greeks before reading this.

>> No.15948408

>>15947566
Yes you can, you just need to have learnt the basics and gotten somewhat 'into' it. Then you can start studying a 2nd language at the same time.
t. Learning both Jap and French at the same time

>Mephistopheles. She is condemned!
>A Voice from above. She is redeemed!
What did God means by this?

It's great, just finished rereading it. But I'd avoid Kaufmann, or at least have another copy on hand that actually contains all of part two.

>> No.15951114

>>15946980
Mephisto is really fun, Faust's psychology is incredibly rich, and (if you read a good translation) the poetry is beautiful.

It means she is redeemed.

>> No.15952087

What's the best translation? I've read the Bayard Taylor one, but should I read Kaufmann?

>> No.15952113

>>15947166
I don't remember this part. Did the translation I read skip it or did my memory fall out

You need to read the bible to truly appreciate a lot of things

I know that but you're not answering my question

You need book of Job and anything the Greeks wrote or said

>> No.15955003

>>15946818
I'm trying to get this but it's usually really vague if it contains both Part 1 and 2. I assume both are counted into the "proper" Faust?
