Just a reminder to the people typing their angry essay that marxism has not, nor will ever, work.

As someone who loved him at the time and is now pretty much indifferent, I always thought his "it's impossible to be atheist" thing was a bit ambivalent. He mentions Raskolnikov fearing the judgment of God, but I would argue that most people's fear is at getting in trouble and what other humans will do. DFW makes a similar claim that everybody "worships something" that he doesn't really substantiate. The Impossible Atheist really seems like a popular stance for non-philosophic academics to use to attempt philosophy.

I think that the general idea is that everyone conceives (at some point and in some way) something larger than what is materially presented, either consciously or subconsciously. Peterson goes for the Judeo-Christian interpretation of this, which is a pretty lazy route to take admittedly, but might make sense if you believe that individuals living in culturally Judeo-Christian countries inevitably imprint Judeo-Christian iconography and philosophies(?) into themselves, even if subconsciously.

Yeah, I don't know. It seems to me that there's probably some people who don't ever conceive of the something bigger, unless you count their own egos or pleasures, which I guess you could say "becomes a god" to them. But it still seems silly to say "because this person puts extra focus or priority on [Thing A], they worship it". I think that's why it's appealing to people like Peterson and DFW, it's vague enough to be kind of impossible to disprove while also seeming bold and contentious.

Ain't no flaw,
cause it ain't law,
but stay in school,
and need no rule.
Dr. Kermit is our guest,
and I wish him the best,
but with a real dad to impress,
this book is all needless.

I honestly couldn’t finish it. It was so boring and reeked of blatant self help money grab. His first book, maps of meaning, is really fucking good and that shit came out in 1999 when you faggot retards were just cum in your daddy’s nutsack

OK Jordan I'll bite. I liked your book, but instead of shilling it nonstop why don't you write an analysis of DeMause's "History of Childhood". You've got the perfect qualifications.

Its unironically a good book.
The scene where he imagines beating up a child is based, as well as both times he goes on extended rants about the simpsons, the first time writing a paen to Nelson about the neccessity of bullies, and the second writing about Homer as being 'the drunk braindead patriarch of the Simpson clan" (or something along those lines.)
There is also a great moment where he is boasting about how he was able to figure out why a child was crying, while the child's own parent's could not--but he doesn't tell the child's father how to get the kid to stop crying, leaving him in misery. The rationale Peterson offers: "don't throw pearls before swine"

It is true that sometimes he comes off as a bit sociopathic, but Peterson is a very funny writer.

I reccommend you read it, if you haven't.

Sounds reasonable to me desu, what's the point in offering advice to someone who isn't going to want to hear it?
