Would most of you agree with the sentiment that contemporary literature is lacking levity of form and style? Serious, contemporary attempts at capital L literature often seem to be stuck in the megalomania of modernism still; is it our fate to produce ever-more serious and ponderous, lead-like works until the end of time?

No, I think there's an overabundance of levity in contemporary literature.
