So /lit/, I'm trying to advance my Spanish skills by reading books, but so far I've been limited to translations of popular English books.

I'm looking for some fiction written in Spanish that's relatively easy to read. Any suggestions?

ciencia ficcion de alta calidad es algo que esta mas limitado al ingles.

Leer tranducciones al espanol de libros en ingles es una buena idea. Ahora, si quieres aprender un espanol mas informal y mas "natural" primero te preguntaria que espanol te interesa mas.. Latino o Castellano? Las diferencias son similares como el ingles americano comparado con el europeo.

I've been reading the short stories of Márquez in 12 Cuentos Peregrinos alongside the English translation by Judith Grossman as Strange Pilgrims. I read the Spanish and write all unfamiliar vocab/idioms down, then look up the corresponding part in the translation. I use an all Spanish dictionary to try and find a definition of the word and translate it into English. If I can't figure it out I go to Grossman and see how she rendered it.

The stories aren't very difficult grammar-wise, but there is a lot of vocabulary. I recommend this method because the language is beautiful, the stories are interesting, and the English translation is fantastic. You won't be bored.
