Pretty much your old fashioned "muh small town" "muh community" shit that assumes too much good in people.
I grew up in a rural small town type of place in America and I wouldn't trust 99% of them to feed my cat let alone cooperate with them on agrarian practices and a shared lifestyle, community rituals, shared responsibilities. A bunch of fucking drug addicts and scammers on government welfare whenever they could get it.
And the "pillars of the community" that Wendell Berry would have loved, the people who most put on the act that he and other "muh small town" types are so into, were by and large secretly into shady shit, child molesters, pastors fucking women (and men) in their congregation, corrupt businessmen, that sort of thing.
It's all so tiresome and I wouldn't mind if the whole place was gutted and made a national park and all the people driven out. Fuck 'em and fuck small towns and all that shit.

I've read My Past and Thought in combination with War and Peace. I loved his writing style and his character.

My version did miss the parts about the relationship with his wife. I'll read it separately once I'm in the mood for it.

I have no idea honestly, most of the things I wrote in this thread I have from "The Unsettling of America", which I really liked. I've been reading it yesterday and today, finishing it right now, and all I can think about are those fields.

Thinking about picking up the essay collection Sex, Economy, Freedom & Community, so you can try to pick one of those to see if he talks about anything else than those fields.
