This is true actually. As an ESL I've got to choose between: our classics, which I already read, our moderns which for the most part are cringy imitations of their western contemporaries or translated works. I don't have any seal of approval that tells me: this is an accurate translation.
So when I go to the bookstore or the library I browse through the stuff they have, select a few books I want to read then try to find any flaw that justifies me from not picking up that particular version of the book. I skim through it to proofread it, I compare it to the English translations (which I look up on my phone), I analyze the quality of the paper and ink and then decide whether to actually bother with it or not. Most of the time I just loiter and leave without any books.

the most depressing thing about jungian functions and by extension mbti is that it lays out every possible combination of human psyche and you see that everything you dislike about people is never going away. you'll see exactly how all the wrongs that have been done to you, all selfishness and simple mindedness, and even trends that you disapprove of in arts philosophy and science have already been necessitated by people's minds. no amount of education or culture is going to fix anything. even a theoretical mental eugenics is hardly possible. even if took it on himself to fix things he will be shut down fast and remembered as a tyrant. it's our fate to misunderstand and misuse each other to all eternity.

Had a few moments of irrepressible laughter when upon seeing people comparing themselves to Roman emperors and the 'greats' of history, even feeling a clear sense of pride because they share a 'personality type' with Socrates and the like. Naturally, when the laughter fades you can't quite escape the feeling of dejection, there are many disappointing things about the modern psyche, but this is especially disheartening - especially when you see people signing off with the likes of "t. INTJ" with the utmost sincerity, even here of all places
