Debates are performative anyways id say he has the right strategy considering the amount of goal post shifting and study quoting that takes place.
The best debate Ive seen in the past few years was Petersom v Zizek because while it started out as a debate it turned into more of a conversation. It was a bit rough off the start with Peterson coming in with a boilerplate anticommie speech but it turned into something decent.
Shapiro does a good job debating, anyone who doesn't admit that is just being a poor sport. Of course because everyone has an opinion and many are ideologically motivated there will always be people who will hate. Theres not many people like Shapiro who have a standing rule that those who disagree with him can come to the front of the line to argue first.
Id love to see Shapiro debate desTiny unironically, the battle of the fasttalking gishgalloping manlets would be great

Best response in the thread, Plato is the best source. Read Sophists, Protagoras, Gorgias. As characters, the Sophists in his work to demonstrate how rhetoric can be used to basically win any argument and to support any point, no matter how bad it is. It's also important to look at Socrates' responses to the Sophists' arguments, and the Socratic method is generally pretty useful. This being said, the thing you should be taking away from reading Plato is that arguing for the sake of winning arguments is dumb as shit. Have informed opinions and back them up in debates, but be prepared to have your points disproved. Don't be a cunt
