Is this the true power of rationality?
Any books about this?

Why do people choose words like this? He makes a good point about the contingency of certain methods on things outside of an agent's control, but he expresses it like such a pretentious fag. God I hate "intellectuals" sometimes.

It's not just the words though, the content is just as bad.

Eating correctly is a discipline that people rarely learn in life.

Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is more difficult.

Stupid meme.

its not a meme. of the few people who actually do try to lose weight, even fewer manage to keep it off.
greg doucette, as much shit as he says and gets, had it right. it has to be a sustainable change. if you cant envision yourself eating boring salads for the rest of your life, then its not gonna last.
and although you dont need to eat boring salads for the rest of your life, you will need to make some compromises and some sacrifices. people dont like making sacrifices when the timeline is "forever"

Well yeah, no shit, but that’s how the fucker goes. The only people who succeed at difficult things are the ones WILLING to make the sacrifices and become disciplined. People are always seeking a way out of this, but at the end of the day that’s the only thing that’s going to make it work.

>Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is more difficult.
I mean, to lose weight meaningfully you must run a calorie deficit which is unpleasant, whereas maintaining weight you simply consume what's needed to meet your TDEE, which is less unpleasant.

I have been dieting for 4 months now and going in spurts. The times when I am eating a 500 calorie deficit are unpleasant, the times when I eat a 1000 calorie deficit are agony The times when I get lazy and eat my TDEE for a while (not over, but at - just plateauing) are perfectly fine and manageable.

I get what you're saying about habit and all, but habit aside what you're saying just is not true. Losing weight is agonizing, maintaining is occasionally inconvenient (have to order a salad or something to not go over your requirements for the day) but not agonizing.
