The problem isn't biological, it's psychological. It's "i want to be a girl and act like one, but i have a masculine body and penis which makes me sad" and doctors don't think it's a good idea to treat the underlying desire/delusion and instead think they should change the body to fit the image in their head. Giving someone more estrogen/testosterone will just make their body even more disagreeable and increase the dysphoria.

There is no real solution. SRS and hormone treatment gives them some hope, but they eventually realize their body will never fit the image in their head and they'll never be seen as they want to be, so they off themselves unless they have a regular supply of people that will go along and perpetuate that delusion. It's basically narcissistic personality disorder with a twist.

Personally, I identify as a 6'2 blonde attractive chad with a 12" cock and I'm sad because people don't see me the way I see myself. Yes, the solution is to go through surgery and shame anyone goes against my preferred self-image.

But even if it’s not, they should still be expensive items. 1) They are typically used for life, so you will almost never need to replace them unless they snap, but most wizards/witches keep them for life, so only the kids get new ones. This funnels the market down to the entry level, and since they’re essential items, the wand sellers can jack up the price to however high they want. Also, they’re hand made, and all contain an item from a magical beast (unicorn, dragon or phoenix, I believe) and these creatures are already very rare and hard to come by, making the production of new wands very time consuming and costly. So there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be the single most expensive item on the new student list.
