Part of what made Illmatic such a classic was the production by DJ Premier and Large Professor. Nas is good, but once he stopped working with them his quality fell off. His next album was mostly produced by Trackmasters, and while I thoroughly enjoyed it, it never received the praise for "intellectualism" like Illmatic.
