Do you know of any books that make you feel like you have friends when you read them?

Harry Potter 1-3, before Harry became a cunt.

I read a Steinbeck story today and felt like I was the main character and his relatives were mine. I died in the end, though, so that sucked.

If you're in the category which reads YA novels, you should read John Bellairs' novels. They're very well-written - not even 'for YA novels', they're just well-written - and they generally feature, you know, sort of outsider nerds who have a couple of friends and go on adventures with older mentor-type characters. Really enjoyable stuff.

Reading The Hobbit makes me feel like I can be a badass if I need to be.
