Write your short story ideas.
It's not like they're going anywhere.

A tale of a man with a tomato garden. He narrates their existences and origin stories to cope with his life falling apart. His estranged family and friends still visit him sometimes, but he does nothing but cheerfully and autistically talk to them about his tomato's societal customs, and the story arcs of different sections. They cry and scream at him every time they're at his place but he doesn't even register it because he's too infatuated with the west wing's crown stock that.

No it's not my diary because I don't have a garden. I'd call it

But Anon, short stories are fucking great, what's the problem? Why would you feel the need to needlessly drag out a story when you can make it short and sweet?

Detective story set in the style of a young adult novel.

Young University aged girl has a chance encounter with a homicide detective and they strike up a unlikely friendship. The detective is hunting a serial killer that has been terrorizing the city, dismembering young women and doing all sorts of fucked up shit to their bodies, posting their bodies to social media via throw away accounts. Girl spends her free time searching for the killer and eventually finds a lead and shares it with the detective.

They set a trap using the girl as bait and they catch the killer.

A month later they are having a party at the detectives house to celebrate some achievement the girl made in her studies or some shit. Anyways the girl never arrives to the detectives house and the detective searches the city the whole night for the missing girl. In the dawn he searches the local park as the sun rises to see a headless, legless and armless torso dripping with blood tied to a statue in the middle of the park. A copy cat killer killed the girl.

He is numb and his suffering is added too as over the next days the arm and leg meat of the girl is found stuffed into soda cans and left across the city.

I don't know whether to have the detective catch the killer soon after or for the detective to obsess over the case for the next decade long after the police have declared it a cold case. I'm not exactly sure what I want the 'message' of the book to be yet. Something about human obsession. I want the killers to be characterized to the reader by how I describe the murders. I want the reader to be able to know about the killer without the killers even talking in the story itself.

And yes it is definitely a ripoff of Kara no Shojo.

YA novel. Boy just out of HS finds a cute 19th century vampire girl in an abandoned distillery. Boy can't return to adolescence and innocence. Girl can't return to her old life and innocence. They find semblance. There is no romance. But they are extremely close.

Conspiracy nutter 'gets in' to the hidden world of all his conspiracy theories. Magic is real, angels, demons, chemtrails etc - he gets shown all of it - but then gets dumped back into his old life, and stops caring about any of it because he is so far removed, and lives more richly in the end.

I had an idea recently for a story about a small, secluded island, that starts getting famous for tourism and as a result starts turning to shit. Made a kind of outline for some of my ideas but haven't thought of an ending, and probably need to flesh it out more in general. I've written short stories before (though I imagine they were trash) but I want to try and write something more substantial and have wanted to for a while but I have trouble adding detail without it feeling forced and just for the sake of it. On top of just not having a fleshed out idea for the story in general.

A fictionalized account of the Clutter family murders from November 15th, 1959, told from the point-of-view of Perry Smith and Richard Hickock. The story would open shortly after Smith's parole began and include flashbacks to his army days and hospitalization. I've been heavily inspired by Kerouac lately so I'm expecting an allusion to that scene from Vanity of Duluoz, "in the purity of my hospital bed," etc.
