I haven't read a book since high school and I'm in my 20s. Where do I start? How do I focus?

My problem isn't this severe, I am still reading books but it takes me ages to finish one and I think this is the right thread to ask for it: How do you find the time to read? I wake up at around 12 am, eat and then study for university all day long and also go to the gym afterwards. I'm way too drained in the end of the day to sit down and read so I watch some series or film and then go to bed at around 4 am. I guess I could stop watching series and replace them with books but I don't really have any motivation.

Read notes from underground. Only like 140 pages and is very intense and entertaining. You might struggle through the first quarter but just push through and if you get through that the rest will be easy. Then read 1984. Then go from there.

Read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. It's a good book to get you back into reading. It's not super difficult or complex but it will get you in the mood to be reading longer works again.

Pick up a classic novel and commit to 30 minutes a day every day. When you finish the book pick up another classic and do the same. It’s that easy

1) Consider your personal interests. Poke around on the internet for something that interests you, something you'd like to learn more about. Read a few short internet things about it. If you arrive at something you'd like to learn a bit more about, try to find a short book about it.

2) DON'T FALL INTO THE LITERATURE (BOOKS)=FICTION TRAP. What were the last books you read in high school? Were they all ficiton? Did you like them, hate them, etc? Even if you don't care for the fiction you've read, you should keep in mind the pleasure of reading non-fiction. This is what I had in mind with 1).

3) Just take it easy. Part of reading is that you get to make your own mind about the thing you're reading-to a point. Since you've indicated you just want to try reading some book-length works, just pick something out, maybe small, and go from there. Try a short book, doesn't have to be fiction. Fiction is useful for moral imagination and entertainment, and sometimes include beautiful prose, but "books" are not the same thing as "fiction". Just make sure it's something you're kinda interested in. Then do another related short book. Write some notes about them, and do something with them maybe, or not. The point of notes is personal retention. Doing a writing project increases retention of whatever you tried. This is why literature classes assign small writing projects, or "essays, reflections" on whatever you were just assigned to read.

Try to find a short book of any kind that you think you'd like to read. Read it, take notes, then try a related book if you want to. Don't be afraid to pause on one book and start reading another.

Wow, I am surprised - are you sure? because i am a bit of a tomboy and we're not all that "cute" like they make out in the movies. Look for a girl who hasn't put much effort into her clothes/hair/make-up, typically big T-shirts and jeans, she'll probably be a bit more quiet and less smiley than your typical cheerful-high-pitched-giggling girls but it's not because she's sad or shy but because she's not trying to impress the guys or seem "cute" and "hot". She'll usually be up for games that are a bit rough and muddy, or has a specific sport/talent that she's into. Be her friend, charm her, make her feel good about herself and make the first move if you see she's reacting well to you (i. e. uncharacteristically rough with you OR suddenly being a bit girly) - Good Luck

I'm a tomboy also, I know girls like to say that sometimes to get attention but I have been for.. well all my life. Honestly just be their friend, it may not work with all of them but who knows. Also that other girl is somewhat right tomboys tend to not really care about their looks. I tend to wear boy clothing... no makeup all that great stuff. I mean nobody is alike but I say just be nice to them, be their friend and see how it goes from there. and don't be afraid of the friend zone... well you can be but if they're anything like me they don't believe in friend zoning. haha I might be the only one in the world. Also not all tomboys are sporty, cause I'm more the gaming, quiet, academic crazed tomboys. Some tomboys also really enjoy eating and dining on used tampons. Might just be me though teehee. Just be careful out their ;) but hey good luck with your dating thing.

I just want to wrestle a qt tomboy gf naked, with my engorged cock constantly poking at her.
but everyone knows tomboys are only into twinks.
fuck my stupid fucking life. I wish I was a fucking twink.
I didn't ask to be so masculine.
I was simply born the epitome of masculinity and it's not fair.
I don't want to have an enormous brutish frame which easy muscle growth. I just want to be a sleek twink and get punched by a qt tomboy gf.
instead I naturally intimidate every person I come across with my intense face and structure.
I want to be a hardgainer that's underweight.
but for some reason I always feel like pumping iron and pulling huge numbers.
I am the beast, but want to be the twink that the tomboy qt gf is infatuated with.
my life is fucking ruined.

Lol im a twink a lemme tell you. You. Are. Missing. Out. I wrestle with her everyday. I get to smell her sweaty body when she jumps on me. I drink her sweat. Gallons of it . Sweet, musky, fruity, nectar that is suffused with so much boyish and youthful joviality that ones spirit becomes anew from just one sip. One sip will cure any disease. On sip is enough. And i have a constant stream. A constant stream. A river. A juice, that may as well be ambrosia, something that even jove himself would deign and delight in drinking, let alone me, a mere mortal.

There are many books that are being adapted into films or are being adapted into films. You can start with those kinds of books and then get into classic literature. So start with Harry Potter, then you can go read the Lord of the Rings or maybe even Dune. The Hunger Games trilogy is also a good read.

Make sure you have a dictionary with you so you can look up unfamiliar words. Or you can just read the book through and then read it more slowly again so that you can make notes and look up words.

If you want to get into the classics, maybe start with something exciting like an adventure book or some kind of horror/gothic tale.

Dafoe - Robinson Crusoe - Guy was on a ship that gets shipwrecked and is the only survivor and must live on an island by himself. So he has to hunt animals and grow his own food as well as build his own lair or lairs.

H.G. Wells - War of the World - Aliens invade Earth, action takes place mostly in Great Britain and the British Empire get defeated usually, although they score some victories.

H.G. Wells - The Time Machine - Scientist creates a Time Machine and travels into the future where mankind has evolved into two different species or races. The surface dwellers that seem like peaceful herbivores and the violent subterranean morlocks that come out of hiding at night and capture the surface dwellers for food. The Time Traveler then travels further into the future before returning to his own age of Victorian England to tell his tale to some of his colleagues.

Mary Shelley - Frankenstein - The narrator meets a man named Victor Frankenstein on a journey into the Arctic or Antarctic, I don't know which as I can't remember. Frankenstein tells his story of his youth spent in I think Switzerland or some Norse country. Then he goes to get an education and looks up resources on alchemy and creates a revenant sort of monster or rather a zombie made up of decease people's body parts. Monster zombie turns out to be intelligent and learns how to speak and read from listening to an educator who was teaching his fiance his culture and language. The monster hates Frankenstein for creating him and starts killing Frankenstein's family and friends until Frankenstein a agrees to create a mate or bride for the monster. Frankenstein doesn't follow through and the monster kills Frankenstein's fiance. Then I guess Frankenstein hunts down the monster until he meets the narrator at the beginning of the book and begins to tell his tale.
