What is the best writing style, from a literary point of view of course?

>Writing a novel and am torn between the operative and the descriptive.
> I think i have an operative bias: I just want to write a screenplay basically
>but then i think more and want to make pretty descriptions and insert poetic elements

does anyone else find this problem and what to do with it???

which authors/style have the best balance i guess?

define best in terms of literature.
everyone has different preferences when it comes to the balance of operative/descriptive.
just make sure you aren't drowning your narrative in repetitive purple prose.

well if i wanted it to appeal to a broad audience while still being credible to critics, how much should it split it? is there any theory on this? my guess is no because they havent finished genderqueer theory yet: better focus on that before quality gets discussed!

Descriptive is the way if you have substance

>write it as operative as i like
>go back and see where i can make nice flair and think on my themes etc
