Stine's prolific body of work can be quite intimidating to a novice reader, but with a bit of theory you can go a long way. I suggest accomplishing the very least the syllabus for NYU's Philosophy course- pertinent topics being advanced ethics and maybe a cursory bit of Biology knowledge for the books that take place in the rainforest.

will do, thanks for the advice. I had a class in Freudian critique that helped a lot with "Why I'm Afraid of Bees" and "My Hairiest Adventure". It never occurred to me to get an in-depth ethics education. Makes sense for books like "How to Kill a Monster".

Ah yes, How to Kill a Monster is one of his finest pieces. I also recommend The Beast from the East, a book that properly highlights the innate sadism of man when faced with a meaningless universe. Of course, you may want to read some lighter theory before taking it on, like the Complete Works of Sade and Blood Meridian.

With that same logic a person with no inclination to read two years before the mast would probably find the unabridged Robinson Crusoe and Verne's work boring. I found Two years before the mast pretty passive even when it was thick, I'm just using "comfy" as a substitute for your average adventure novel.

Just started getting into Russian literature –so if anyone has a chart, that would be greatly appreciated.

I've read Dostoyevsky's Crime and punishment which was great! (bit of an unnecessary added ending scene, but it was great nonetheless)
He is amazing at explaining people's psychology if that makes sense; you really get a feel for their state of mind, their emotions, etc.
I'm so looking forward to reading The Brothers Karamazov, and Demons.

I've also read Anna Karenina, which was pretty good too.
But I wouldn't say Tolstoy is nearly as easy to follow ...to be fair, I've only got the one book to go by, but it felt like 2/3 of the book was just character building and the last third the actual story.
And Anna was barely part of the story till halfway through the book.

Next up I want to give Solzhenitsyn a shot! The Gulag Archipelago looks really interesting, but daunting af.
Is it worth committing to the full 2000+ pages, or would you recommend an abridged version?
