He was freely created by God even though his creator knew he would be damned to eternity from his choices but didn't have the mercy to opt out of that creation and instead create him damned but with the good nature to eventually repent, which one would assume would be the case: that the good nature inherent in all creations will eventually overcome any evil they've willed.
