Felt like I should actually justify these.
>Conversations with Tyler
Run by Tyler Cowen with a variety of interesting guests. Imagine JRE except Joe is a genius and there are no comedians. Tyler is classically trained as an economist (also runs the marginal revolution) but the podcast is more about choices rather than math. His research team is also nuts, like nardwar, and the reactions from the guests is more or less authentic.
>EconTalk
Run by Russ Roberts, similar to Tyler in form. Guests usually have published a book/paper recently that they will discuss. More academic than CwT, but no economics background is needed. Titanic redpills about the nuts and bolts of healthcare and education in the backlog. Been running since 06, the archives are extensive.
>Popular Front
Run by Jake Hanrahan, who is a conflict journalist. Dedicated to niche / underreported conflict around the world. Practically covers everything from Syrian war to American extremists. Leans left, but lots of good old fashioned on the ground reporting.
>Rune Soup
Run by some crazy guy names Gordon in Tasmania. Guy has constructed an animist based metaphysics. I don’t agree with a ton of things he says, but it is good for a perspective check every now and then. Nice practice at adopting foreign world views.
>in our time
Hosted by Melvin Bragg from the BBC, covers a staggering array of topics. Panel based with Melvin acting as the Everyman. No background information required.
>No Agenda
Hosted by Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak. Dedicated to “deconstruction” of the news, very anti corporate. Leans right, but in the Alex Jones sense that main line republicans are not immune to criticism. Also gives nice insight into production / advertising background. Can come off as a bit culty at first pass.

It’s a long running theme. Recent ones on education:
6/15 Diane Ravitch
6/1 Sarah Carr
5/18 Robert Pondiscio
2/12/18 Bryan Caplan (this one really hurt)
Healthcare:
4/18 Vinay Prasad
3/23 Azra Raza (this one especially)
11/18/19 Keith Smith

Do note that often guests have an explicit bias or cause they are advocating.

everyone here would like death is just around the corner. it's just one incredibly smart but incredibly mentally ill guy from the midwest talking about modernist literature and the 20th century. there are like 12 great episodes on gravity's rainbow, a bunch of stuff on pound and elliot, the jfk assassination, iran contra, etc etc. most of the episodes are paywalled but some of them are free.

I just listened to this. Russ Roberts sounds so soft-boiled, when he's scrambling for explanations/dismissing the strong correlation between IQ and job performance. Does he always sound like that? It's like a kind of fear of drawing conclusions.

I’ve listened to the first 2 gravity rainbow ones and he still hasn’t gotten to talking about the book. He said something about how British people have a ‘foundation myth’, and if you ask a Brit where they came from they’d say they’re refuges from Troy. As a British guy myself, I’ve literally never heard of this, and thought that was the Roman myth. It really destroyed all faith I had in his ‘facts’.

He also mentioned something about funding brianna wu, and I looked them up and it’s a transgender game developer.

I gave it a fair chance, sorry dude.

Pynchon in Public has good episodes as a sort walk through or book club for Pynchon. I think they've covered most of his books and are halfway through V. I don't think they're massively innovating but they're useful to read along with if you're not entirely comfortable with the plot.

oh wait you can listen to this one, it's early music program, very nice https://www.rtve.es/alacarta/audios/musica-antigua/ Spanish radio station but you can just skip the guy talking
