That and his array of other works, I believe he also wrote essays, should do perfectly; provided that you have already a solid knowledge base and aren't youthful enough to fall into an idealisation of Mishima's pseudo-heroism.

You mean being a tranny? Try finding a male figure and emulating, your at such a low-point in your life, the modesty which you shall receive will be innumerous if you show the strength to go on. So it wont really matter if the man you emulate so thoroughly is childishly done, or a ridiculous stereotype of himself, as the meaning it conveys to you in that moment will be beyond these things.

So please, don't be so weak to give in to these urges, undoubtedly in some part homosexual. Just try to help yourself anon, find strength. Have dignity in yourself, value yourself for these things.

I don't understand how one could so shamble an understanding of Mishima, like how do you honestly see any of this as an anime you stupid weab? Or "cringe romance shieeet" like Shinji, though it has some romance, it always returns to that basic radical pubescent striving of the male, and specifically the masculine traits. The ending was the second best part of the book, and was the materialisation of the feelings of the book in action, the suicidal desires of this masculine idea. It's only "goofy and anime tier" if you somehow completely ignore the complexity of the characters and motific places in the whole work, to see just the "le yearning epic man, le sad home woman, le rebellious teen" which it is quite self-aware of and mocks in some instances; because it is not the centre of the work, and predominantly not even in the work at all like that.

Your immature liking of anime has perverted your understanding of traditional literature. You saw what you unironically wanted to see, to hate it or love it, it doesn't matter.

>> No.15687423

>>15687250

You could even say the characters were simplistic in the short novelistic style, but again, they all provide a sort of motific underpinning to the common aesthetic of this masculine yearning expressed in the development of the stages of ones life, in one way of others in the novel.

Spoilers

Its a little bit about the woman. She's the westernized influence in Japan. She is also lightly characterized so in some sense yeah I agree it isn't about her. Looking at her name being part "house, room, building" and "child" I think its an interesting choice. Noboru ("Rise, Ascend") only murders once he is unlocked from his room, unlocked from the womb, unlocked from his mother. A born killer maybe, he is rising or ascending from childhood. This is what he leaves behind. I agree that he idolizes what Ryuji was. But the play between the mothers and sons name and what actually occurs cannot be passed over. Both are leaving behind major stages in their lives. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of play between sailors (or seamen) and sperm and seas and wombs in Japanese as they are both the Sailors in the English title. And Ryuji? Dragon-man? The only real authentic man in the world or so he thought? The guy who marries a woman with another man's child. Not that I think there is any kinda stigma to doing that. The guy who envisions hard mastheads while doing a hooker. How macho. Those are pretty over the top.

Guys, this stuff isn't subtext. Its about as subtle as a mac truck. To the anime stuff I can't speak - only really watched Evangelion and Sailor Moon when my sister has it on. I went into the book with no other Mishima novels under my belt. What I found was two naive boys pinning for a woman's admiration and not understanding the consequences. Again, apart from the pedantic characterizations I found it to be enjoyable writing.

Too deep. As you said it's not subtle.

Fusako = Westernisation of post-war Japan
Ryuji = Glorified version of wartime Japan
Noboru = Traditional Japan/Japanese values/Mishima himself.

Noboru has no love for Fusako, just resentment and disgust. The whole thing with the peep hole was not anything sexual on his side, but an invasion of privacy and his own form of rebellion and dominance.

As the other anon said, it's most certainly sexual and you need to realise that you are in essence now becoming a slave to your desires by wanting to become a woman. Too feminised is modern life in the traditionally and sincerely masculine spheres, and now we find young men also feminised to a mild degree and in worse cases such fantasy's as yours. You must be strong, don't you know you have infinite strength in these ephemeral things? One can always persevere anon.

Men are object-oriented, and in every sense of your existence you are a man, even your wanting to be a woman is masculine. You need to understand that your a male so you don't just "believe it", but of course you factually know it and it immediately informs every part of your existent predominantly subconsciously because of its immediacy. Be a man anon, find a father figure, read Ernest Hemingway, I don't know just you will die by shame and sin, guilted suffering and deceit. Just see what is obviously true, you are NOT a woman, and this is a good thing, you WANT to be a man because men are good. You can appreciate women but you must know that you aren't a woman and you can't actually understand them, furthermore your image of women is a stupid ideal which comes from sexual fantasy's, Men are better than women in everything. Become one of the guys.
