Which books could be described as being hostile to life / existence?

David Benatar's stuff is an example, as is Houellebecq's work. Thomas Ligotti is another example.

In what sense?

I understand that he affirms the value of love and so on, but his protagonists are frequently hostile to modern life and often depressed and deeply cynical. His non-fiction work about Lovecraft states something along the lines of "Adult life is hell" and seems to agree with Lovecraft's own condemnation of life.
