As someone who was bored by Lord of the Rings & only read four of the Harry Potter books, I must say that Lord of the Rings has more dignity. It's for adults. Harry Potter is for kids, because it's full of melodrama & bawwwing.

I just realised that my favourite bits of HP were the bits that were like the Worst Witch. The normal schoolboy/girl shit like stressing over exams, butthole teachers, falling out with friends and such.

I liked HP but the whole DESTINY thing spoiled 6&7 for me. Or maybe I just finally outgrew it.

let's see, who else did a LOTR rip-off after which everyone wondered if the wizard there would be better than Gandalf? Hm... I recall one Raistlin Majere - almost became god, he did.
