I'm always writing bitch. Far from pathetic.

>> No.1566540

Oh I am trying to write as much as possible and dedicate one day every week to writing and literatur so yeah I dont consider myself pathetic

My grandmother never wrote a whiny, coming of age, existential novella; and her mother died in childbirth, leaving her to be raised by her cold, unkind aunts, who felt burdened by the necessity of raising an unwanted child.

World War II broke out when she was eighteen years old, and she had to deal with that before emigrating from a burned out Europe to Canada.

She never wrote a book though. Why does every twenty something with no life experience and no writing talent or experience believe they have some sort of hope at writing a novel that will speak to people in a meaningful way?

You don't have to be old or from the 40's to write a book though. Jus sayin.

Harry Potter - ASoIaF fapfic isn't really "writing", is it?

I pretty much now what you mean mate. Today everyone (or atleast alot of people) think about writing a novel (me included), but most of this people have next to no experiance in life.

Its the same with my grandfather who was raised in nazi-germany and was send into battle near the end of WWII. Now think about a not even 18 years old young men who saw some of his friends he had there getting killed, after that fleeing and being a war prisoner for nearly a year. He also never wrote a novel or thought about it because he was to "busy with life" afterwards.

Writing a book does not change the fact that you're a pathetic self-righteous jerk off, OP. Hopefully this doesn't upset you.

Totally feelin' you guys right now. Reminds me of my dear ol' great gran pappy. Way back in 19dickety2 he did something, and then some things happened which made life very difficult for him I'm sure, but such was life in (insert European country of your choice) and it was like that for a lot of people. Anyway he did some things and then yadda yadda boat to Ellis Island. He filled out his name and he was an American citizen, but they made him change the (Mc/stein/-ski/Ahmahdenijad) to Smith and he spent x years doing (terrible manual labor/factory work). Eventually he met my great gammie and they had 23 children, but 21 of them died because such was life in gran-pappie's time. Anyway then there were some more hardships and he didn't write a novel.

his prose was shit anyway

Oh wait do you guys think OP is serious? Uhmm... it seems like pretty straightforward commentary on dum-dums "writing" for the image/opportunity to talk about it.

I wasn't entirely sure, but regardless I was doing a poor job at trolling.

>> No.1566578

>>1566567

Oh well I saw something like that coming....
The point I wanted to make was that right now everyone and his retarded brother want to be a writer even thought they dont know shit about life. In earlier times people were too busy to even write.
Thats probably the reason why bookstores are filled with total crap today...

>> No.1566581

Irrelevant yo. Half the people on /lit/ seem to be writing the next great novel.

I'm confused. You keep talking about "knowing about life" as if that has anything to do with writing a book. Now, I'm not going to say it doesn't--completely--generally people who aren't mentally retarded are better at writing but having lived through shit like WWII doesn't mean you can automatically write a good book because you've seen shit.

I agree with you. I was just outlining the fact that even someone who agrees with you NEVER (and this is a rule with no exceptions) gives a shit about your family history. But yeah I know it just to make a point.

1. I wasn't talking to you.

2. I'm sorry I upset you regardless, I'll buy you some ice cream if it will make you feel better.

>> No.1566595

>>1566582

Sorry man dont get me wrong that wasnt what I wanted to say, maybe I have put it a little wrong.
What I wanted to say is that todays generation doesnt have a lot of experiance in life (well most of them).
Sure having life experiance doesnt make you a good writer, you can still be worse at writing than a middle schooler.
I just think that today far more people are trying to write "the great noval" and a lot of the stuff gets published even though it its crap.

>>1566595
I completely agree with you there. The world is looking towards kids like Paolini who wrote Eragon to write these "genius" novels, when they're literally idiots who can't write their own material, and even when they're stealing other peoples shit they make it suck.

Either a non obvious troll or just a stupid remark. Nobody is looking towards Paolini for anything.

I've written a few novels, some were crap, some were (maybe) good. If we're talking life experience, tell me if I have enough:

27 years old...

- Had half a dozen jobs
- Been to school and college
- Had friends
- Been abroad a few times

I'm not sure if I do or not. To be honest, having jobs is a great way to meet people from different backgrounds and of different ages.
