Hey anons!

What is the best English/German-language literature on early Pythagoreanism or Sophism? I am looking for good compendiums on either of these topics. Thanks!

How come these two, anon?

Some of the Sophists aren't so bad. Nietzsche and Stirner are extremely similar to Callicles and Thrastmachus for example.

Protagoras is also basically an early John Locke.

>doesn't know that before Plato distinguished "sophist" from "philosopher" the term was just a synonim for "wise man" in Greek

Also, if I was looking for something less esoteric, I would not be asking here

Start from this page:
https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/pythagoras/

It has a nice bibliography at the end and you can choose what to look at. Burkert is probably a name you want to check on the subject, if you can read German - there's quite a list of publications from him on the subject, if you check the page.

>flexing on the wrong person
Imagine taking entire classes on Plato's dialogues from professors who know Greek and do their work on ancient Greek philosophy, only for some random pseud anon to come to you, thinking the thing to flex about is the fucking fact that 'sophist' means 'wise man' in Greek, which is Greek 101 knowledge.

Protagoras is pretty neat. Gorgias reminds me quite of Nietzsche/Stirner.
>>15662789
Interesting, how so?

Good motive.

Fair.
