What books would /lit/ reccomend to improve my forward thinking/strategic thinking?

I'd like to improve my chess game (and others), but I never seem to be able to think beyond 2-3 moves and always miss possible counter attacks

Have you considered reading a chess strategy book?

Yes, but I'd like something broad that I can apply across the board but I might be asking for something that doesn't exist

There’s no book that’s going to make you some sort of master strategist in all aspects of your life. If you want to get better at chess, read a book on chess strategy. If you want to get better at critical thinking in general just... read.

ah, that sucks. I really hoped there was a miracle book that could help shapen my decision-making skills lol
Like you said, I'll just keep reading generally

Books won't raise your IQ bro. I'm not trying to insult you. This is a fact I've come to accept too.

I mean you could try reading stuff perhaps on military strategy, like the Art of War or maybe reading Clausewitz, though you’d have to do some abstraction.

IQ is just the general processing power of your brain (though it’s flawed in many ways). You can still get better at something like chess by, well, learning more about chess strategy.

Anyway just learn Go instead, it’s way more fun and you have to learn patterns and visualize board states that are tens of moves ahead, which is a true challenge.

>learn Go instead
If I can't get my head around chess, I doubt I'll have much success with GO but I'll try it nonetheless

Go is more intuitive than chess.

How does one play Go?
t. looked over the rules on wikipedia and still doesn't understand crap

Not him and don't play the game but I think its about surronding your enemie before he surrounds you, and the one with the most captured pieces of the other wins I think
A guess I could pull from my ass is that trying to do a risky plan with many pieces can end up with all the pieces captured which make it really challenging and fun I think, again I might be completely wrong
