You know nothing of hell. Over the past 8 years I've amassed nearly 8,000 books on ancient and medieval history (almost exclusively late antiquity/early middle ages) - my area of professional study. I have read probably 80 cover to cover. If I live until I am 100, and read 2 books a week, I wouldn't make it.

What do you find interesting about late antiquity? Im a classcist and have tried to get into it but just can't compare to the principate. Not trying to be mean or anything

It's okay to be a poor fag. Maybe you can pioneer and popularize a themed thread about what you have downloaded recently? Maybe not. In either case, pack up your meager possessions (if you have any) and smartly find your way out of this thread.

Tbh just thinking it's a risky read. The penguin tradition of abridged and shitty translations is a danger in terms of understanding what a book is trying to say, moreso with something specially difficult like the Metaphysics. Between scholars there's a lot of controversy on how to translate significant portions of it and i'm not betting on penguin to get it right or even care

How are those Oxford edition books of Plato? I've been thinking of just getting the complete works edition instead of buying separate, individual books. As of now, I only have the Penguin Last Days of Socrates.

They're great, the complete works have been sold out for me for a while and Oxford editions are generally reliable. I only have Euthyphro/Defence/Crito, Phaedo, Symposium, Phaedrus and Republic right now as I wanted a good grounding for Aristotle, but I'll pick up a few other Oxford editions I'm sure.

Oxford vs Penguin?

I only have penguin editions but they seem to get a bad rep on here.

Is it elitism, autism or is there literary significance to the different publications?
