>An Amazon spokesman, Drew Herdener, said in an e-mail message that the books were added to the Kindle store by a company that did not have rights to them, using a self-service function. “When we were notified of this by the rights holder, we removed the illegal copies from our systems and from customers’ devices, and refunded customers,” he said.
Seems fair
Thought it was over him being cancelled for a second there.

It's only safe for now. Archive is under attack for doing what libgen does but doing it more "according to the law".
In the end we are seeing books being "burned" even though much of /lit/closes it's eye to it.

Using an e-reader for convenience is fine. Using it as your primary store of books is stupid for the reasons this article illustrates. It is trivial for your collection to be erased, selectively or entirely, without your consent or knowledge. Any book I care about and want to keep I own in print. My ereader is for travel, so I don't have to pack a whole separate bag full of books when I stay somewhere for extended periods.

That's what you get for not pirating books (Z-Library). If you have to buy them, de-DRM that shit, so they can't retroactively take them away from you.

Suspicion of Amazon and it’s authoritarian tendency is somehow part of their marketing structure and has been for a long time, article is 10 years old. Deleting just Orwell is too obvious, you should assume they know what it looks like.
