Maybe because there is nothing to explore now. The wonder of the great distances are gone.

Simple overlong fantasy with too many cozy details plodded over. You might like it though there’s nothing profound.

You are oversocialized. Stop using the word larp for anything non-ironic. It just shows your own insecurity. Everything good is always a bit beyond normalcy and a bit odd until after the fact.

I think its because people had a greater sense of exploration because traveel was just so much more rare and involved, giving it a bodily realism. Unlike today where we are use to simulated exporation through internet and automobiles,

My personal favs are; Lost Horizon, Seven Years In Tibet, Sir Richard Francis Burton's exploits are pretty cool but not written the best. The explorers club has some cool books on more relevant explorers, and another similar theme are hunting adventure novels. I know it doesn't sound the same, but Capstick, Hemingway, Roosevelt, and Bell's hunting novels are stellar. Kim by Kipling is up there, and some more seafaring novels are the Aubrey Martin novels or the ever infamous captain blood are good.

miguel de estete's account of the conquest of peru was an insightful read. to be one of just over a hundred conquistadors toppling an empire 12 million strong for god king and country, then being awarded an estate, hot native girls, and all the wealth you could ever want is the pinnacle of human achievement

Well, there's space but we lack the knowledge/technology like our ancestors before the medieval ages lacked the knowledge/technology to sail across the world. We are getting there though, this century we will land on Mars even though it's a barren planet. It will take several centuries until we can reach Earth-like planets.

We will never be able to explore space, maybe not even our solar system. We will never reach that optimism of conquering earth again.
