>want to re-read a segment from a book to sharpen on the nuance
>can't find it in the book
>wondering if I got it from the book
>left with as much information as though I had read a wikipedia article or seen a youtube video

someone convince me why I should even touch an informational book EVER AGAIN if I forget half the fucking nuance anyway

(if you're wondering Hannah Arendt said something about how the Gestapo was really small in actuality and operated mostly on tips, in her book The Banality of Evil - if you can find this segment for me I will digitally suck your dick or something)

This happens when i read hegel. Half of the quotes on my notebook sound like him but my mind probably made them up.

is this what reading books is?
less about assimilating the book's contents but rather about some footnotes to your day to day life that subtly cost hours of ones' time?

i feel as though these books should come with test questions, that if there was some community dedicated to creating essay questions and grading them... a university for instance

i might just steer clear entirely from philosophy unless i end up going to university and studying it
it simply is too much to take in without curriculum

You're just not using the right techniques to read or learn, which is why you're unable to retain anything beyond a wikipedia summary.

is notetaking a good alternative?
discussion only helps with popular works
would notetaking be managable regarding time?
maybe quick oversights concerning chapters and their main points supported by the main nuances?

my mind now is filled with scattered factoids and anecdotes

>is notetaking a good alternative?
No, not by itself.

>would notetaking be managable regarding time?
Since it's a waste of time unless you do it correctly, no, it would not.

>maybe quick oversights concerning chapters and their main points supported by the main nuances?
Again, unless done correctly (and it is not a declarative question but a procedural one, i.e not what you note but how you note it) it's mostly useless.
