No one is saying that you should be, but your motivation for your BF to not pursue this path is completely selfish, and in the long term (if you stay together) will be damaging.

A relationship is a shared thing, and you should both be acting in the best interests of the relationship. And like it or not, there are gender roles that need to be adhered to for a stable relationship. It is the woman's job to be supportive, but also realistic about her man's ambitions. If you think he genuinely does have some talent, encourage him to write for local (or maybe even national) competitions, but in the meantime to find a stable profession to pay the bills.

If you were a loving girlfriend you wouldn't want him to abandon his dreams altogether, but you would help him find a reasonable compromise.

Anyway, that's the real reason that the Anon called you a terrible partner. Because your motivations are coming from a place of selfishness and insecurity.

It's not selfish to think this. You're probably looking out more for him than yourself in saying so. But, trying to just punt someone out of the art field is a bad idea; try more to just have him spread his eggs to more baskets, even just across other forms of writing.
