It really is. And it's funny, because one of the constant reasons people give to read the book is that "the writing is sooooo good", and then you open it and you realize that modern fantasy writing is so starved of anything other than dull functionalist prose that any idiot willing to throw in a poetic metaphor--even if vapid or nonsensical--is suddenly elevated to the ranks of god-tier writers.

He can't help but describe every single action every single character makes, and repeats himself constantly in word choice, but just add "deep and wide as the autumn’s ending" and wow, this guy's for real.

In the intro mc brags about how crazy his life story is. Merking kings, banging princesses and destroying nations. Then he proceeds to spend the entire book recounting how we was poor as a kid and had a hard time paying his student loans, but also he was good at guitar.

about the worst characterization imaginable. The mc unironically describes himself as the most interesting and important person in history and then tells his life story where he succeeds at everything and is better than everyone just because he is so much smarter and cooler than everyone else. Hes a constant asshole but this isnt shown as a character flaw to overcome but just another aspect of how smart and awesome he is.

i couldnt.finish it but from what ive seen its basically a wizard of eathsea written by an autistic psychopath with an ayn randian lack of self awareness. there is nothing interesting or redeming about the character or story.

I was actually just reading this, and thinking about what's wrong with it

In short, you can expect to find promising fantasy ideas and decent writing that is ultimately ruined by the neckbeard cuck author self inserting as some god character who is good at everything yet never gets the girl, quote related.
Basically nothing at all happens in book 1 at all don't think I'll read book 2
