I'm not a native English speaker, but there was this one translated story of his I greatly enjoyed

It was about some (hole?) in the desert and some guy would enter there and there was this immense, fantastic city or something and all the inhabitants were going towards huge flame, like moths drawn to it, essentially to their suicide

The protagonist then goes back to the hole few times and in the end he is drawn to it too. I believe it was some sort of "diary found in old house" type of story.
