Just got a brand new comfy likebook mars ereader. I've barely read any books in my life except ones required in school but I find myself wanted to know more about the philosophies and just have more general viewpoints by reading

What are essential /lit/ books I should read?
I've read some stuff like the Odyssey and it was alright. Any charts for essential no bs books?

Thoughts of what? It is about a guy who falls in love with a girl. It is a forbidden romance.

there’s not much knowledge to be held in philosophy. The whole purpose is cultivation. If you haven’t read Plato, do that. Anyway, the end goal is action, and we can’t rely on knowledge to act, because we can’t know anything. Don’t underestimate the importance of faith

Sorry I forgot to mention that
I want books that have useful things to me. That maybe teach me aspects I can implement in my life that I can learn valuable things from. It's hard to explain but I'm trying to say it in a way where I don't mean philosphy -

I just want to learn and become the best human I can be with the widest skill set and the best values and morals. It's hard to say.

Start then with How To Read A Book
Then move on to other books that talk specifically about thinking and retaining information like Thinking, Fast and Slow

From there you can look branch out to your personal interests but have a better basis for understanding what you are reading and utilizing the knowledge you gain.

It seems to be worth reading. Has an apologetic tone to it and it is definitely one of the best books written in English.

If you are after skills, get introductory books on things. Not that complicated, I think intro to psychology is a good idea. Dunno what would you possibly want to learn. Just learn about everything that might concern you, I'm reading an intro to economy book and it ended up being more interesting than I thought it would.

I'll be real honest with you now, focus on something. Definitely worth it, use those wider interests as a distraction. But definitely have a focus in life, learn a skill that you can use to earn some money and be good at that.

"Essential" books are cringe as fuck. Just read the classics and maybe Plato is all I'd say is recommended. But really read whatever the hell you want and don't just read to look smart here.

Thank you so much for this. I'll consider doing this first.

Thanks for understanding, I'm kind of interested to read it now. As for skills I think you kind of understand what I'm saying

But I'm saying in more of a personal development time of way. A way of training the mind not through literaly education like math etc. but through perspectives and values and thoughts. Remaining calm and thinking clearly in times of the worst disaster, just being a better human in every aspect and every mental way.

>>15535727
Yeah I'm def not doing it to be smart - It's just I don't really know how to find books. There are just so many that I find myself looking at the cover. I'm not someone that has a lot of time so I want to make the time reading worth it that I take. But yeah I agree about the cringe.
