A friend of mine told me that this series is better than A Song of Ice and Fire and Black Company.

Was he telling lies?

>> No.1551618

No...?

>> No.1551679

best fantasy series ever. Cotillion/The Rope and Shadowthrone are my favourites

>> No.1551939

I'd like to know a bit more if this is actually true before I pick a few of these up.

>> No.1553208

it's military fantasy about the struggle of the malazan empire, but the ten-book plot deals with the Chained One/The Crippled God, an alien ascendant pulled to this world by a ritual and almost destroyed, who wants revenge on the gods and everybody else. i recommend you read the books in this order:1,3,2,4,

also try encyclopedia malazica if you don't mind spoilers

7 Days, The Crippled God...

MY BODY IS NOT READY!!!!!!!!!

>>1553215
god yes! I hope Cotillion doesen't die...

>> No.1553236

so kruppe matches wits with tehol-who wins?

>> No.1553238

Fucking yes he's telling lies.

It's not bad, it's just very average.

>> No.1553250

>>1553238
are you talking about gardens of the moon or the entire series. because the series gets progressively better.

>> No.1553253

>>1553238
i guess it depends on what you want out of fantasy. one of the biggest appeals of MBoF to me are the living breathing squabbling gods and ascendants. it feels like you're reading about the olympians from greek mythology fuck each other up

>> No.1553256

>>1553250

I've only read the first two but the entire 2000+ pages didn't produce anything really great. I don't have the time to wade through 1300 page books when they're only average.

I might give the third book a try but unless Paran has a personality transplant I'm not expecting to like it much.

>> No.1553260

>>1553256
At around book 7 Paran does start to get real cool. Though plenty of people loved him from the start, no idea why, stereotypical fantasy archeatype he is.

Myself, I liked Fiddler and Trull Sengar the most.

I thought he was a snob at best in the first novel (and that his romance was ludicrous too).

Really didn't endear him to me.

>> No.1553266

>>1553256
the third book is one of the best. the siege of capustan is awesome. the fourth is also great and you finally get to see the Rope actually fighting.
>>1553260
Trull is awesome, that shit ending of Reaper's Gale is an abomination

>> No.1553276

"so Hood's Breath?'"
"Hood is the god of death, he has no breath."
"Mowri's Mercy?"
"She has no mercy"
"Beru fend?"
"Beru fend's off nothing"
"you people have a strange relationship with your gods"

lol

>> No.1553291

i have a question-books 7 and 8 had no glossary and no deck of dragons. did he just give up on that or is my version censored? because i think it's time to start revealing some more of who holds what place in the High Houses

>> No.1553303

>>1553266
>you finally get to see the Rope actually fighting.

Yes, but will this actually be cool given there are dozens of uber-powerful beings floating around in Malazan tearing shit up? It got a little tedious even in book 1!

>> No.1553317

>>1553303
the rope doesen't use sorcery. he fights like a human assassin, except with superhuman speed and, well, an actual rope. he kicks the shit of about thirty tiste edur.

>> No.1553349

ae the novellas worth a read' those published by his friend?

>> No.1553368

not a bad series, i'm on book four currently and i'm enjoying what seems to be a self contained book with Karsa Orlong(the toblakai from book two).

they see me rapin' and murdering children, they hatin'.

1-good
2-goood, but kind of boring at the same time
3-great
4-fantastic
5-good, reads as a separate novel, you can actually read it first if you want
6-great
7-balahblahblahblah-gem sentence-balha balah ah-repeat-nticlimactic ending
8-fantastic atmosphere, melancholic and gloomy, probably because his fathe rdied, and also a very good story

that all i've read so far

>> No.1553398

This is the only book series I've read where i don't know how to pronounce half the characters' names.

>> No.1553478

What sort of weird warren is this? Instead of magic they have some kind of magic-generating...devices. Fiddler, we have to find a way out of this.

Well fuck. Just too many variables(yes that' a cop out).
