There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

There's so many sheltered faggots on 4chan, it's no wonder Rand is such a hit here.

Wait, is it taking place in the 50's or now? Because trains have 0 importance now in America. They should have made Dagny in charge of an car company instead. It would be relevant too. When the government nationalizes GM, Ford, and Chrysler she starts a new car company made of indestructible Rearden metal and saves capitalism.

It's just as funny as it was the first time I read it, he just doesn't deserve credit for it.

As much as I find Atlas Shrugged objectionable in a political sense, this actually does look like a fairly entertaining movie. I do wonder how they're going to deal with the Galt Filibuster - but I think the requirements of making a film instead of a novel, and the involvement of talented people, will remedy many of the defaults of the book on a literary level. Plus, it has Armin Shimerman who is awesome. Would probably see this.

It certainly is on 4chan

I feel bad about this but I definitely make the presumption that every poster is male on every 4chan board except /adv/ (and /r9k/ when /r9k/ existed, weirdly). It's definitely strange to think of women posting on 4chan and it's not an assumption that I ever really make.

It is for the English language in general, singular "they" is gaining ground but is still commonly viewed as an error rather than a deliberate choice.

I'm of the rare breed who is cynical and has a dark sense of humor.

Too many women are hung up on being positive and matching handbags with shoes.

No I mean I'm fairly confident there are a good number of women on 4chan it's just not something that springs to my mind, if that makes sense. For some reason the discourse and culture on here is SO masculine. Or something.

Glad to have you along for what that's worth.

As much as I disagree with Ayn Rand, I have to admit I've wondered why it hasn't already been done.

It could have potential as a great movie, but not with the c-list actors they're using and the idea of setting it in modern times kind of ruins the whole thing.

I wish a better production company would have got hold of it.
