Although some of them might be worth taking just for the chance to mess with the kind of kids who take gender and race courses. Highly trollable, they are.

Those classes aren't lacking in idiots, but it doesn't mean the topic isn't relevant. The course has the potential to impart on the student a greater understanding of the world around him.

oh yeah, you used greentext so I guess that is a good point you've made.

I'm worried for you because I'm afraid that you're not very smart. Hopefully I'm wrong and you're just a chubby high school student without enough life experience to have escaped your narrow views. Either way I'm done with you now.

a lot of these courses are probably great at amherst and all but you should probably keep in mind that this is a school that offers a major in radio communications

The thing is a degree has value in itself if you utilize it well.

However, a humanities degree won't open up specific career routes it can help with more general ones.

What this anon said

I'm an english major, and i want to teach, but i see all these people around me who only knows that they do NOT want to teach, so they're apparently hoping that "opportunities" will appear once they are done.

I also know a bunch of unemployed people with majors in humanities.

OP, you can get whatever fucking job you want provided you did well in your course (Honours or a Master). You could become an academic - there is a crucial shortage of University staff, including professors, in New Zealand Universities at the moment. You could become an editor if you're willing to accept an internship which pays fuck all, or a secretary position to another editor for a while. You can become a politician - plenty of politicians have a humanities degree. You can become a businessman (obvious really, but BA students do quite well in business). A teacher at high schools or primary schools and if you get/have gotten good grades possibly a private school so you can avoid shitty kids. Pretty much anything provided you have, or are willing to sacrifice time for, experience.

Failing all that you can go to a bank and apply for a job. You'll get paid a shitload and get to lecture on the side at your nearest university. That's a fact. So many BA students here in Britain do that. It's the failed career option that isn't the teacher path.
