Hey /lit/, I have a philosophical quandary for you.

I'm going to use a specific example from my own experience to make it easier to think about, but obviously this can be generalized.

I snowmobile to and from college. The trails I take are very popular amongst out-of-towners. Because they're assholes, there's a stretch of trail in town where they like to rev and then release the throttle over and over again. This creates huge ruts in the snow that make for an extremely uncomfortable, bumpy ride.

Let's say that someone riding over these ruts wrecks because of them, and is killed.

Do the asshole out-of-towners bear moral responsibility for the death?

Only to the degree that you bear moral responsibility for the no-doubt numerous deaths you've indirectly caused both at home and abroad for things you'll never know about. Butterfly effect, yo.

No, in your example physics would demonstrate the rider was travelling at excessive speed for the conditions.

i believe it would just be considered an accident.

We are all responsible for everything that happens and ever will happen. Only until you accept this fact of life will your life begin to improve itself.

It is a sign of progress to blame yourself, but the wise man blames no one.
