I'll discuss the reality effect with you anon. I don't really want to discuss death of the author stuff because I assume most people haven't made their way up and through the against interpretation stuff that so clearly de-emphasizes the loss of intention stuff, and if they have they wouldn't be nearly as enchanted with DoA. Reality effect is a nice pedagogical point, potentially.

Not him, but Bakhtin is hardly an obscure critic. Russian formalism in general is chan-babby's second school of lit-crit after New Criticism. One could say it's New Criticism for kids who think New Criticism is too passé.
