i have decided to go into east asian literature and as i will not be reading translations which language should i learn first. Chinese or japanese?

>> No.15437050

From what I know, Chinese lit is quite depressing and Japanese is based.

Japanese is far easier.

Chinese will be harder to learn because it's a tonal language but they're both pretty difficult. Start with hanzi I guess since it's relevant to both.

not gonna make it, but Japanese is easier and more akin to the "western taste"

Knowing Japanese will make it easier to consume the more popular Asian media in its original forms, and Japan generally has better media over China.
