>hypothetically your goal is to write popular fiction that sells well without any regard for “true art”
>would you spend more time reading the classics or reading new popular fiction?
>feel free to include your split as classic/popular (ex: 50/50)

Whatever cranks my writing "engine".

none of the above. You spend your time building an internet persona so you can tweet daily with your fanbase.

Sure that’s a factor, but let’s assume you’re good-looking and you’re already building an online brand

And what cranks your writing engine?

I can't answer that question because a lot of bestsellers are written by people who are completely incompentent. It's a mystery to me.

Life itself. I'm not a fiction writer, but I use writing as a therapeutic tool. So basically being disturbed irl is a good way to make me write about anything.

Interesting. So do you seek out disturbing experiences? Or do you tend to read disturbing non-fiction stories?

This is funny but I’m actually not looking for any John Green fan fiction right now. I’m sure the author of this could be a mega-successful YA author if he tried

I used to do that. Now I abstain from such things, because it is not a healthy habit to have.

It was mainly consuming disturbing media of any sort. But it is not like those kind of things don't take their toll on a person's sensibility.

I still read anything in general, but it isn't at the same pace as before when I used to actively look for things like that.

If I wanted to start selling hot dogs on the street would go to the ICC or would I start looking into how to manufacture hot dogs?
That's not art; its a commodity.

I'm such an immaculate writer that I can pastiche this low brow trash with the greatest of ease for amerimutts.
